Working on my Website: Day 2
This has been a bit of a tricky experience right now. I’m learning Square Space and I still don’t know what I’m doing, but I am learning.
Today, I switched the color pallet and added another picture block even if it’s just a copy of another picture. The second picture and picture block I added both use a picture of my cat sleeping by my foot. It’s a cute picture but I’m not sure if I want my foot on the first page. Most of these pictures will likely be pictures of my cat, at first, because that’s mostly what I’ve got on my phone. I’m going to start taking more pictures to use in the next few weeks because I really don’t want to use stock photos. I am willing to use pictures taken by others, as well, with permission and credit given, if they wish.
I also want to figure out how to add a picture to this blog post. If there’s a picture, I figured it out. If not, I didn’t.
I’m only spending an hour or so here and there to work on my site. If I want this to be more developed, I must actually take time to actually develop it. Taking pictures, editing them, coming up with blog post ideas and writing them out, and mostly, actually building the site take time and I’m not spending a lot of time working on it. Making a blog is just another hobby in a huge list of hobbies I already do and I will be able to make posts concerning these hobbies. I may make one about the cross-stitch I’m making for my brother-in-law to encourage me to open the laptop and actually work on it. I’ll take some pictures of it tonight while I work on it and hopefully put it up soon.
This blog is not a tutorial. It’s just a space for my thoughts, opinions and suppositions; a space for my interests so that I can pontificate online rather than just in the text boxes and ears of everyone around me. My thoughts right now are only about making this page when I open up the laptop. Hopefully I’ll be able to get beyond making the page and into actually using it.
Post Script: I couldn’t figure it out. No image this time.
Working on my own website
Well, I’m working on my own website. The site isn’t live, yet, but I wanted to start the blog, which is the whole point of this website to begin with. It’s not an easy thing to build your own website. If it was not as expensive, I would hire someone to build my website for me but I’m looking at it as a way to become absolutely familiar with my site. And I am learning. There is no doubt about that. I am learning. I figured out how to replace the background of my home page from a stock image to one of my cat. I also figured out how to actually make the blog and make blog posts.
I have some ideas about what topics I want to include in my blog, including mental illness, politics, witchery, paganism, handicrafts, animals (especially my cat), history, anti-mlm, humanism, mythology and religion in general (I’m a pagan; mythology is religion to me), science, decorating, chronic illness and healthy living. That’s a huge list of topics, I know; and I guess I can also include building and maintaining a website because this is exactly what I’m writing about now.
At some point, I intend to possibly do YouTube videos but I’ve got enough projects on the boil right now and I don’t need to add another to the pile. Possibly after I’m familiar with my website and know how to maintain it better, I may add doing YouTube but that time is not right now. I’ll need to save up for the supplies I’ll need to do it right, like a mic; and I must admit that other than that, I don’t know what else I would use to make it. I guess some programs to manage the sound, etc. It’ll take research that I don’t have the bandwidth to handle right now. I have enough on my plate.
So…my first blog post. You guys won’t see it right away as my site isn’t live yet and I’ll make sure to have a section about building a website for you to peruse. I’ll have to figure out how to do that first, though.
